Nope - at least not in Tokyo. I live in the city so it's more common for every inch of space to be used.

[Google has failed me and I can't find any pictures of her backyard, but it is very nice! And big. And just past a sliding glass door further inside the house. There's a outside dining set with an umbrella placed over the cobblestone by the entry. A white brick fence surrounds the entire backyard, separating it from the neighboring lots. The gardening work is pretty cute, too.]
