.... stupid stuff to pass the time before we get evidence, I guess.
I didn't want to. If someone kills in self-defense, it's not their fault. I wouldn't have felt right voting that person out.
[He. Has strong feelings about that. And absolutely would have acted differently if they had risked voting out someone who had killed in self-defense.]
[and he knows that. he doesn't sound judgmental, or like he blames luca for coming to that conclusion.
but.]
... so what does that mean?
We'll just vote for whoever we decide is the 'most likely threat' every time we don't figure it out, even if we don't have any actual leads that point to them?
[is that fair?]
We voted for a robot this time. I voted for the robot - because I was ticked off and he harassed Takeru. And - [he feels guilty, even for that]
... what are we gonna do, if the next time we decide that the threat is a person?
One: we need a plan before that happens. Voting people off because 'they might be a threat' is absolutely unacceptable. We judge people for crimes they have committed, not what they could potentially do. Because let me tell you: it's always the people who stand out from the crowd who are 'suspicious.'
[Luca is. A little heated now. He feels strongly about this.]
Secondly: We have two killers here who survived. One was defending themselves, but the other is an unknown. We need to find out why people are killing, and work to stop them from the source, before they kill.
[ . . . his brow furrows and he can't help but ask - ]
... do we know that for sure? That someone was defending themselves. Is that something that people just - figured out and tried to introduce gently in trial through Harrow-san's theory?
It's just a theory, but it's one of the leading ones. We would be remiss not to consider it. Miss Grell and I are from similar time periods, and if she was indeed a serial killer who targeted promiscuous women, then...well. Her attitude is not uncommon, considering where we're from. Society for us greatly represses any kind of sexual act that is outside the bounds of a marriage. Even I would risk getting jailed, if I was as forthcoming with my advances as I am here.
Second - .... okay. I'll hope it's self-defense, but I think people need to get that if there's maybe another round of this, it could be a pattern. I'm not convinced that someone didn't try to plan out their indulgence to go after an already unpopular target, knowing that we all might just -
I don't know, care less.
[and that seems to be a sticky point for him morally but. it's why he does protest just a little. until something's proven, it feels
That's not for sure - this is the first time it happened. It even could've just been that someone thought that she was distasteful for treating Molly-san as poorly as she did.
[mineo was pissed enough to throw a punch, after all. he recognizes that sometimes you just get mad on someone else's behalf]
But - who's Giovanni, Valentino-san...? If I can ask...
[there's just a snort at that and he tilts his head, expression softening]
Valentino-san.... I think I've inferred some stuff so far, but you keep acting like it's all bad. And that's what I don't get.
I just think it sounds like you're in a situation you're not happy with and - even if you might not be faultless in it either.... [mineo has figured out he is probably cheating on his wife. he does have thoughts on that,]
I kinda just wish you had more freedom to do what you want, because I wish you weren't in that tough spot in the first place.
[I just wish you could have a chance to be happier.]
[Luca is stumbling over his words here, because he feels seen and it's making his stomach flop around. And as much as he has always wanted someone to notice this- to notice how thoroughly unhappy he is with his life- it's still a shock to hear someone call him out on it.]
[Which is why he can't just open up and admit to it. He's still too much of a coward to be open about his feelings. So he just smiles like everything is fine and he didn't just get called out.]
Well. Thank you for such kind wishes? But really, they're not necessary. Or all that close to the truth.
[ . . . the thing is that mineo's an idiot. he can't do math or science, and even if he can work hard at gathering pieces, he tends to leave the final push of actual thinking to takeru or anybody else he trusts to handle it.
but he likes people enough to want to be good with them.
so he'll reach out and put a hand on luca's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze]
... you don't have to talk to me about it if you don't want to. If I'm not the right person or saying the right things, or whatever.
But I'm in your corner, okay? Offer's always open if you want to lean on me.
[Mineo is absolutely valid, and hearing something like that stirs up some deep-buried emotions in Luca. But he's going to squash that feeling down, and reach up with a hand to flick Mineo in the forehead.]
Didn't I tell you to be careful with that personality of yours? You're lucky I'm not one for grand gestures of romance and commitment. [HA!] I might just have to act if I were actually charmed by you.
Week 1, post-trial
That's two weeks in a row we've managed to circle around to your dating life. I think this might become a trend.

Chaos, by the end. Even if we try to organize and make sense of things.

We... do. But it's - not easy. Not when it's people's lives, and then you throw in 'it might be self-defense'... So how can anybody pursue that?

If that's the case then we should probably refrain from sharing unsavory details in public. Damn. I shouldn't have mentioned Giovanni this week.

Cool! How old is he? How come you don't wanna talk about him...?

And I don't want to talk about him because we just established that someone might try to use personal information against us.
