[he looks sheepish at that, pulling back his hand to rub the back of his neck]
Ahh, to be honest I don't really wanna waste your time with that. I'm no good at science or math - but I can tell you're really smart, so be proud of it!
[HE'S JUST A JOCK GIVING CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE]
And if you wanna keep telling me stuff, I'll listen! I've memorized pi to about a hundred places and then some, but I think that's all I've got brain space for.
[oh! he perks up a little at that before letting his gaze just drift upward to check out the projections and the lights]
I know some! Even the commanders of the Shinsengumi are said to have been guided by Tenrousei - the North Star, brightest in the sky! They were some of the greatest badasses in Japanese history, though I'm still not all caught up on their exploits.
[He's gazing up at the stars now, watching them turn and swirl over their heads.]
I've thought about traveling to other stars. Each star has it's own solar system, did you know that? And that perhaps out there, there are people who can travel the stars and see those solar systems with their own eyes.
It would be lovely to see, I think.
[This is probably the most open Luca has been since he arrived here.]
Even being around here - I think that. I can't tell if that makes me soft-hearted or whatever... but everyone's from such different places. It's hard for me to really get mad at them though, when I don't know what they've been through.
[ . . . there's just a little bit of a huff at that and he'll let his own hand fall over luca's for a second, appreciating the reassurance before letting it fall again]
I dunno Valentino-san, it's kind of a dicey situation here, isn't it...?
Shouldn't we be telling each other everybody's out for themselves or something?
[mineo probably is just used to carrying a phone on him because he's a millennial
but he'll point out the features as he goes]
You'll probably get some texts, even if it's just 'cause people like White-san are bored. But once you're here, you can find my contact name riiiiiight here!
And then you can send messages whenever and I'll get 'em - but it seems like they start to go on the fritz after ten each. Normally you can call somebody but it doesn't seem like they have that feature...
But! The point I'm making is that if you ever find yourself in trouble or even nervous, send me a text and I'll come running. That's a promise.
he looks back down at the message again and - tries! he really does try! he repeats it back to luca as he reads it, even if it's a little awkward and choppy. but!]
- sorry, I must've butchered it. But I wanted to say nice to meet you too in your own words.
[WHAT DID IT FUCKING SAY, MAPLE]
Just Japanese for me though. Some English, but I'm not great with it.
He's trying it so earnestly and it's so adorable and Luca doesn't know how to handle this. He has to cover his face with his hand to hide the smile he can't seem to suppress.]
Let's- if you want to learn, let's start with something simpler.

Luca barely knows Mineo and already he is like "I will punch people to keep this man's smile intact."]
What about the stars? What do you know about those?
[If he's purposefully choosing a subject where they are on more even footing, then he doesn't admit to that.]

[that's just such a nerdy japanese history fact]
Mostly I know they're real nice to look at.
You?

[he eats it all up easily, even going up on his tip toes for a second like it'd help him see the star's solar system better from where he is]
That's so many stars and so many systems!
Do you think they'd be the same or different from us?
no subject
[Does he mean that positively or negatively? It's hard to tell with his tone.]
no subject
mineo looks thoughtful about that.]
... I think so too.

[He steps over and pats Mineo on the shoulder.]
But that's not as bad of a thing as you make it sound.

no subject
[Boy his tune is going to change when they find out about the murders.]
no subject
... you read the FAQ they gave us, right...?
I guess - even if the people I've met aligned with Wrath aren't bad... I'm a little worried about how things could turn out.
Did you figure out the phone thing they gave us any more?
no subject
[In theory.]
And we can keep each other in check too.
I didn't figure out much more of the phone though, no.
no subject
Did you bring it with you? I'll show you something.
no subject
Of course, I don't want to get locked out of my room.

But eventually he sees where Mineo is going with it, and. Well.]
no subject
Is that your indirect way of saying you want me to text you more?
no subject
I guess but I like seeing you face to face more?
[when has mineo been indirect about anything in his life]
no subject
Fortunately I think we can do both of those things.
[He will take his phone back and start texting though.]
no subject
but mineo looks confused for a second]
Yeah? I guess it's true that you might as well get practice in.
no subject
He waits to see if Mineo gets the text message.]
no subject
- just kidding, his phone beeps with it and he looks excited to open it, like getting mail? but then he pauses, looks awkward]
Ah.... Valentino-san.... I'm afraid my uh.... this language is a little rusty....
[just say you don't know it you dweeb]
no subject
Ahh, my mistake. But it says "It is a pleasure to meet you" in my native language.
What languages do you know?
[He's assuming English, since as far as he knows they're speaking it now, but.]
